Northwest Runners Excel at Invitational Meet

The Northwest School varsity girls’ cross country team raced to a hard-earned second place in their division at the Nike Portland Invitational on Saturday, Sept. 29. The Northwest boys’ team finished fifth out of 35 schools.

The Northwest girls’ team finished with five runners in the top 50 out of 156 competitors. Senior Macenna H. led the girls’ with a 19:13.50, placing second in the Division 2 Varsity 5,000m race, just five seconds behind the first place winner. Greta H. ‘19 legged out a 13th-place finish with a 20:02.10 time. Sasha B. ‘19 ran a 20:29.10 to a 23rd place finish.

Keegan M. ‘19 and Milo G. ‘19 helped pace the boys’ squad, finishing 14th and 22nd, respectively. The boys' finished with four runners in the top 50 out of 240 runners.

The Nike Portland Invitational draws over 200 Middle and Upper Schools from eight states. In 2016, the Northwest girls’ team won the Division 2 5,000 Meter race. Macenna has placed second at the invitational for three-consecutive years.
