Undefeated Boys' Basketball Team Ranked No. 6 in State

The Northwest School boys' basketball team is ranked No. 6 in the state's 1A division, holding an undefeated 12-0 record in the process. The start of the season is a fantastic continuation from last season, in which the boys' basketball team secured its first Emerald City League (ECL) championship in school history.

"This team has put in tremendous effort into developing their individual skills," says head coach Sam Fein. "The students have a strong grasp of what their individual strengths and roles are in the context of the team, and I think that is one of the biggest reasons for our successful start."

The boys already have impressive wins over Metro 3A schools Ballard and Roosevelt, and also won a competitive winter tournament in Oregon over the holiday break.

Senior guard Azure H.'s strong play fuels the offense. Azure is averaging nearly six assists per game, and he set a school record with 12 assists in the opening game of the Oregon tournament. Junior Isaiah J. and senior Jamie C. are each averaging over 20 points per game. Sam is particularly proud of junior Xavier D. and senior Gabriel R., who fill up the stat sheet with rebounds and assists, as well as senior center Isaia L.'s strong presence in the interior.

With the regular season nearly halfway through, Sam is excited for the growth of the team as they work towards a second-straight ECL championship. Says Sam: "With their focus our athletes are getting better each and every day."
