Northwest Students Win National Ceramics Awards

Ceramics pieces by Northwest School students Lia C. ‘19 and Camilo P. '23 were recently recognized as some of the best in the country. Both won awards at the 2019 K-12 Ceramics Exhibition, held on March 27-30, in Minneapolis, Minnesota.

Camilo’s giraffe teapot earned the Artistic Merit and ICAN MS Teacher Awards and Lia’s raku-fired spiny orb sculpture earned her a cash award prize. Both pieces were created in response to assignments for the students’ respective Ceramics classes.

Only 150 pieces are originally selected from thousands of submissions for entry into the K-12 Ceramics Exhibition. A baby dragon piece by Puja C. ‘20 was also accepted for display. While on exhibition, the students’ artwork was viewed by thousands of people and was featured on posters, CDs, and in a print catalog.
