Northwest Faculty and Virtual Orchestra Project Featured on KING 98.1

Northwest School orchestra teacher Jo Nardolillo will be interviewed on Classical KING FM 98.1’s Musical Chairs, on Friday, August 17, at 7:00 pm PT. During the hour-long program hosted by Michael Brooks, Jo will enlighten listeners about the debut of the Virtual Orchestra Project (VOP).

The VOP launched in fall 2017, connecting Northwest School orchestra students with other music students from six different schools on five continents. For several months, the students sent each other digital correspondences and, in their respective schools, rehearsed the same piece of music: a tango by Argentinian composer Astor Piazzolla.

The culmination of the year-long project was a video presentation featuring all of the schools, with the Northwest School orchestra playing live to accompany the video in May 2018.

The VOP paired Northwest students with students from the Duke Ellington School of the Arts, in Washington D.C., Colegio Jorge Washington, in Cartagena, Columbia, the John F. Kennedy School in Berlin, Germany, the International School Bangkok in Bangkok, Thailand, the Givatayim Conservatory in Tel Aviv, Israel, and the Lelt Foundation Orchestra in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
