Johnathan Speer

B.A. (English Literature), University of Alabama; M.Ed. (Secondary Education, English, Speech, Journalism, Theatre), University of Alabama

Johnathan previously worked as an AP English language and composition and American literature instructor at Mount Vernon Presbyterian School. He also worked as a Humanities instructor, teaching fellow, and academic instructor at the Asheville School, Blount Undergraduate Initiative, and American Christian Academy. In his position at Mount Vernon Presbyterian School, Johnathan designed two Humanities electives: Advanced Composition and Design and Race, Politics, and Gender, both of which focused on interdisciplinary perspectives and encouraged critical reading and writing.

Johnathan enjoys being a teacher because “as a teacher, my goal is to expand what my students bring to the classroom and leave them with the power to apply their knowledge as they choose. I’ve tried to stoke that desire in students by sharing my love of critical writing and reading.”
