Science Teacher

B.A. (Marine Biology), Occidental College; M.S. (Aquatics & Fisheries Science), University of Washington. This is Kathryn’s second go-round with The Northwest School since she graduated in 1995. She has taught marine science aboard several research and sailing vessels in and around Canada, the U.S., and the Caribbean Islands. When Kathryn isn’t at the school, she is keeping a watchful eye on her children, James and Stella. She is also passionately involved in efforts around gun safety and is a member of the Seattle Brady Chapter. In the summer of 2017, Kathryn was accepted to participate in a summer research project at the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center where she worked in virologist Michael Emerman’s lab, which investigates whether genetically manipulated (or new) proteins can be used to fight HIV. She’s brought much of this experience back to her science classes at Northwest, especially her new senior elective on genetics.
