B.A. (Economics and English), Boston College; M.A. (Education Policy) Brown University

Richard is a middle school math teacher and volleyball coach at the Hamlin School in San Francisco. In addition to his teaching at Hamlin and the Bentley School in Oakland, Richard brings experience as the Manager of Recruitment at UC Berkeley for Teach for America where he served as a 2012 Corps Member in Providence, Rhode Island. In his application materials, Richard tells us: "In my senior year of college, I knew that I wanted to have a fulfilling, impactful, and enriching career that influenced the gap in opportunities between zip codes. I studied Economics and interned at financial institutions throughout my college career under my parents’ guidance but when I began to interview for full time positions, I realized I didn't have a compelling answer to the question, "Why do you want to work in finance?" As a result, I went to my career center to work on my interviewing skills and I ended up speaking with a Teach For America recruiter who was giving her time to help students work on interviewing. I asked about her work and Teach For America and I applied that night. My work with Teach For America opened my eyes to my love for teaching, for middle schoolers, and my commitment to educational inequity."
