College Office News

Senior Exit Interviews Due by May 7
Each year, the College Counseling office meets with 12th grade students to gather information about their outcomes and experience in the college process. All seniors are asked to sign up for a 15-minute meeting with Erin Miller or Rachel Fumia. Calendly links to Erin and Rachel’s calendars can be found on the College Counseling Canvas course.

Class of 2021 Transcripts
The College Counseling Office will send final transcripts to colleges in mid-June. All seniors should complete an exit interview to ensure that the college office is aware of students’ future plans. We will automatically send transcripts to the universities to which graduating seniors have indicated plans to enroll; students do not need to formally request transcripts. Any students continuing to pursue a waitlist spot should plan to check in with Erin Miller or Rachel Fumia during the last week of school.

Scheduling 11th and 12th Grade Meetings with the College Counselors
Calendly links to set up meetings with Erin, Rachel, and Sarah can be found in the College Counseling Canvas course.

For 10th Grade Students: Online Practice ACT
Saturday, May 22nd 9:00 am

College Admissions & Testing Overview
Wednesday, June 2nd 7:00 pm

The College Counseling Office provides a practice ACT testing opportunity to 10th grade students each May. To provide access to the test for as many students as possible, this year’s test will be fully online. Compass Education Group will remotely proctor the exam on Saturday, May 22nd. Families will receive additional information via e-mail next week.

The primary goal of this program is to expose 10th grade students to the format and content of the ACT exam. Students will have the opportunity to “try out” the SAT next October when they take the PSAT. By the late fall of 11th grade, we will also have a better sense of the college testing landscape, which has shifted considerably in response to COVID-19.

Students will receive their practice test results within one week. To assist students and parents with interpreting their results and anticipating next steps in the college counseling process, College Counseling and Compass will co-host a college admissions and standardized testing presentation via Zoom on June 2nd at 7:00 PM. Erin Miller, Director of College Counseling, will provide an overview of Northwest’s college counseling program and the college admissions landscape, and Matt Steiner from Compass will offer insights into the standardized testing landscape in college admissions.

To confirm your student’s spot, please click here to register for the Practice ACT Test and Overview Session. The registration deadline is Friday, May 14th. There is no cost to you for this opportunity. Compass has generously offered this service, and we ask that if you register for the test, your student does follow through with taking it.
