Apply for Financial Aid

The Northwest School awards financial aid based on the calculated need of the family. Awards range from a few thousand dollars to the full cost of tuition, with an average amount of $32,286. If your family cannot afford the full tuition amount of approximately $3500 for 10 months, we recommend that you apply for financial aid.

January 11, 2021 - Financial Aid Information Evening
This is an informational evening for new families to learn more about the financial aid application process. It is not required, but some families do find it helpful. Specific questions about individual situations should still be handled privately with the Director of Financial Aid, but general information about how aid is calculated will be handled this evening.

February 4, 2021 - Applications and Supporting Documents Due

Steps to Apply

1. Check the box for financial aid information

When you complete your online admission application, check the box to receive more information about applying for financial aid. This will let our financial aid team know to contact you, and will not impact your application for admission in any way.

2. Apply for financial aid online

Submit a Parents’ Financial Statement (PFS) through School and Student Services (SSS), a service of the National Association of Independent Schools. Based on the financial information you provide, SSS estimates the amount your family can contribute to educational expenses. This helps us make fair and objective financial aid decisions. Starting November Oct. 2, 2020, click here to apply for financial aid online. Financial Aid applications and supporting documents are due on Feb. 4, 2021. Our school code is 1557.

3. Return additional required documents

  • Completed 1040: We understand that many families will not be able to complete their 2020 tax returns by February 2021. We can use either a draft of your 2020 returns or a copy of your 2019 returns containing notes about what will be the same and what will be different from your 2020 returns. Please do provide whatever current materials that you have (e.g. 2019 W-2s). In both cases, we would need to get the 2020 returns as soon as they are ready. Also, any financial aid award based on a draft or on a previous year's returns would be a "contingent" award. This means that once we get your final returns, the award might change (up or down) if the numbers on the return are significantly different from the estimates provided.

Or, submit a copy of each document by mail to SSS by NAIS, Application Processing Center, P.O. Box 449, Randolph, MA 02368-0449. (For overnight mail: School and Student Services, 15 Dan Road, Suite 102, Canton, MA 02021). Be sure to include a Required Documents Cover Sheet and to mail in a large envelope. Do not fold or paper clip documents.

Other Funding Options
Many lending institutions have suspended or discontinued their tuition assistance programs in recent years. Check with your personal lending institution for possibilities, or contact Jonathan Hochberg in the Financial Aid Office to see if any new programs have emerged.
