Fernando Viana

Fernando brings an extensive background in finance to The Northwest School, and a decade of experience in independent schools. He served as director of finance and operations at The Valley School, and as a trustee and chair of the finance committee at the Giddens School in Seattle. Prior to his work in independent schools, Fernando worked in strategic financial advisory firms and held several senior roles in banking.

Fernando holds a Bachelor of Arts from New York University in economics and politics and a Master of Arts in international relations from The Fletcher School at Tufts University.

When he applied for his position at Northwest, Fernando wrote:

“I find huge appeal in Northwest’s global perspective, diverse and international community, urban engagement and, more than ever, valuing social justice and environmental sustainability in the everyday life of the school.”

Fernando was born and raised in Portugal, and before coming to Seattle lived in New York City and Mexico City. He is a New Yorker at heart and identifies more than anything else as an immigrant and member of the international community. Outside of work, Fernando is a parent of two Northwest students and enjoys playing sports and traveling with his children.
