Jeana Hrepich Kumar

Humanities Teacher

Jeana holds bachelor's and master’s degrees in English and American Literature from Mills College, a master’s degree in English education from Teachers College at Columbia University, a doctorate in English education from Teachers College and a graduate certification in feminist scholarship from Columbia University. Jeana joins Northwest from her English teaching role at Foster High School in Tukwila, Wash. Jeana has also served as core English faculty at Antioch University in Seattle, and as an instructor at Teachers College at Columbia University, as well as extensive service as an English and humanities teacher. In her statement of teaching philosophy, Jeana told us: “As a secondary and postsecondary teacher, and as a scholar of English education, I see my role as one who theorizes, practices, researches and narrates possibilities. For all intents and purposes, when I talk about transforming school dynamics through human relationships, I am talking about love, or something like it.”
