Steven Wilbur

From 2011-2016, Steven taught Upper School math and spoken word poetry at Northwest before co-founding and directing a school for children at Home of Hope in Kahaleh, Mount Lebanon. There, he designed programs to facilitate personal character growth and peace-making through collaboration. He created a vision for school and directed a staff of six teachers, a counselor, and an assistant director. In 2018, he also co-founded and directed CodeBrave in Beirut, Lebanon. The school has reached 297 students with over 1,000 hours of tech education. Steven oversaw a staff of 12 teachers and administrators and formed partnerships with a variety of international organizations. He returned to Northwest in the fall of 2021. 

He is an enthusiastic leader and educator who models growth mindset in his own continued learning. Steven is also a drummer and has trained in art therapy for trauma survivors. He is able to teach using trauma-informed methods to create a rich learning environment for students in his classes. Steven attended the University of North Texas, Denton, earning his BA in Mathematics. He completed his Master's degree in Education, Learning Sciences, from the University of Washington, and holds a Certificate in Writing for Children from the same university.
