Monica Van Loon

Mónica, a dedicated educator, currently serves as the Vice Chair of the Professional Advisory Board for the Washington Education Association, where she actively contributes to the development of innovative educational programs. Holding a B.A. in Human Resources from Universidad Anahuac del Sur and an M.A. in Teaching with K-12 Spanish Endorsement and E.L.A. Endorsement from Seattle Pacific University, Monica has cultivated a wealth of knowledge in the field of education.
Her previous role as a high school Spanish teacher at West Sound Academy in Poulsbo, WA, is part of a rich tapestry of experiences that includes teaching, board and parent council positions at the Sunfield Waldorf School and Farm, as well as at the Foreign Language for Youth in Kitsap County. Monica's commitment extends beyond the classroom, as evidenced by her integral role in translating Washington University's Forefront Suicide Prevention materials from English to Spanish. Additionally, Monica serves as a trainer, showcasing her dedication to mental health awareness and her role as a catalyst for positive change.
Monica's multifaceted interests align with her key passions: supporting youth development in her community, promoting Mexican culture and values, and ensuring her students' growth in accordance with the Spanish ACTFL standards. Her dynamic approach to education is further highlighted by her role as the 7th-grade coordinator at The Northwest School, where she is currently celebrating her fifth year of service. In her own words, Mónica expresses, "I am passionate about teaching and spreading my love for my culture. Teaching at The Northwest School is a dream come true."
