Erin Miller has been named Upper School Director and Director of College Counseling at The Northwest School.
The hiring committee, comprised of administrative and teaching faculty, conducted an extensive search that began in November 2023 and yielded over 160 applicants from across and beyond the United States, including candidates here in Seattle. Two finalists were invited to a day of interviews to meet with administration, faculty, students, and parents/guardians. This extensive search led to Erin’s selection for the position.
Erin joined the Northwest community in 2013 as Associate Director of College Counseling, and she was promoted to Director of College Counseling in 2015. Prior to joining Northwest, Erin spent 6 years on the U.S. and international admissions teams at Macalester College. She has also held professional roles in career counseling, international student advising, student activities and residential life. Erin has an M.Ed. in Higher Education & Student Affairs Administration from the University of Vermont and a B.A. in Psychology & Music from Macalester College. Her breadth of experience, strategic thinking, and care for students has been evident throughout Erin’s time at Northwest.
During her tenure as Director of College Counseling, Erin has expanded the resources and support available to Northwest School students and families, including the addition of a college counseling class for students in the 11th and 12th grades – the first of its kind in Seattle!
Erin will continue to provide leadership to the College Counseling team in her new role, and additional faculty will join the team in the coming months to ensure the continuation of expert support for students through the college search and application process.
In addition to Erin’s role as the Director of College Counseling, she has served the school community in numerous other ways. For example, in 2017 Erin joined the facilitation team of the White Antiracism Working Group in support of Northwest’s work in diversity, equity, and inclusion, and in 2022, she co-authored the school’s Social Justice Statement. Erin has a command of the curriculum and works closely with department chairs to ensure Northwest continues to deliver an excellent academic program. Perhaps most significantly, Erin stepped into the Interim Upper School Director role in late November of 2023, providing leadership and stability to our community during a time of change.
