New Performing Arts Faculty — Christopher T.F. Hanson, PhD

Christopher is deeply inspired by the rich history of The Northwest School and the profound influence it has had—and continues to have—on the community. Initially drawn to the school through colleagues in the arts, Christopher found a unique and rewarding opportunity to join the faculty and contribute to the school's legacy, supporting its dedication to the arts and humanities.

With over 15 years of experience as a professional musician and educator, Christopher has taught students in grades 5 through 12 in both public and private schools. Additionally, Christopher has worked in higher education, instructing undergraduate and graduate students in music and teacher preparation programs. As an educator, Christopher has had the privilege of developing curricula and content for various courses and programs in the arts and humanities.

Christopher is actively involved in numerous state, national, and international organizations that promote and support the arts in education. Throughout Christopher's career, extensive work with community music programs has been a focus, and Christopher currently serves as the artistic director of Rainbow City Performing Arts. Recognized for contributions to building community through the arts, Christopher has received multiple honors, including being a finalist for the American Prize in Orchestral Conducting, being named Outstanding Teacher in the Humanities for the state of Texas, being recognized as a "Music Ed Idol" by Twentieth Century Fox and the National Music Educators Association, and being awarded a COIL (Collaborative Online International Learning) fellowship.

Christopher's commitment to fostering community through the arts is central to life’s work. Believing that every talent is a gift meant to be used to its fullest, Christopher's approach to life and education can be summarized as follows: With faith and perseverance, Christopher lives each day. In daily experiences, Christopher learns and gains wisdom, and with that newfound wisdom, Christopher feels called to share for the benefit of others.

Christopher holds a Bachelor of Arts in Composition from Texas Southern University, along with a Master of Music in Composition, a Master of Music in Music History, a Master of Music in Music Theory, and a PhD in Educational Leadership and School Improvement from Texas State University.
