New Performing Arts Faculty — Christopher T.F. Hanson, PhD

Introducing Dr. Christopher T.F. Hanson, a new faculty member at Northwest joining our Performing Arts department as the orchestra and vocal collective teacher. Christopher has over 15 years of experience as a professional musician and educator, He has taught students in grades 5 through 12 in both public and private schools. Additionally, Christopher has worked in higher education, instructing undergraduate and graduate students in music and teacher preparation programs. As an educator, Christopher has had the privilege of developing curricula and content for various courses and programs in the arts and humanities.

New Visual Arts Faculty — Jaizi Abedania, MFA

Introducing Jaizi Abedania , a new faculty member at Northwest joining our Arts department as a photography teacher. Jaizi has served as a professor of photography and digital imaging at Adelphi University, NY, and as a mixed-media teaching artist at the Brooklyn Museum, NY. In the past, they served as a middle and high school art teacher at various schools, including East Palo Alto Phoenix Academy in East Palo Alto, CA, and Fusion Academy in San Mateo, CA. They facilitated extracurricular mural arts, photography, and filmmaking programs in New York City and have spent time as a mentor and teacher of photography in San Francisco, CA, and Seattle, WA

Introducing Dale Sharp, a new faculty member at Northwest joining our Performing Arts department as the Stagecraft teacher. Having grown up in the Pacific Northwest, Dale has found immense satisfaction in creating art across the region, from Vancouver, BC, to California. A highlight of his career was building a theatre troupe of teens and pre-teens and bringing an original piece to perform in New York at the MTV headquarters. However, what was even more meaningful to him was witnessing the lasting impact these opportunities had on the students involved.

"Hi, my name is Max Sarkowsky. I graduated from Northwest in 2016 and I am a freelance designer for the performing arts. I loved the artistic culture at Northwest. From the hall guitars to the time committed to arts classes and even the way humanities, math and science all incorporate artistic assignments into their curriculums, it really showed me that the arts are important beyond entertainment, and that art can enrich all parts of the human experience."
